The Best Shots In Life Are Green

The healthy lifestyle has been a trench for the last few years, and everyone is jumping on the bandwagon.  With this trend came a lot of things that are suppose to be good for you, but how good are they really?  I’ve been buying wheatgrass shots for the last few months but it only occurred to me a week ago to actually look into this “liquid gold” shot.  All I knew is it’s suppose to be good for you, and that was enough for me to buy it.

My research showed me that in fact wheatgrass is super good for you!
Here is why…

Because of its high chlorophyll content, wheatgrass has a strong alkalizing and detoxifying effect on the body.  You may have heard a lot of buzz surrounding the healthiness of vegetables, especially leafy green vegetables with deep, rich color tones. In many ways, they’re perfect foods and part of the credit is owed to the chlorophyll they contain. Chlorophyll is a green pigment that’s instrumental in photosynthesis. Research also suggests it’s instrumental in promoting good health.

Like all chlorophyll-rich green plants, wheatgrass is high in oxygen and therefore an excellent source of natural energy.  I have had a sluggish day and gone on my lunch break to get a wheatgrass shot and instantly I have felt better!  It really is amazing what these little shots can do you you.

Wheatgrass is superior to other green plants because it has more than 100 elements needed by humans.  Do I even have to explain that one?

Because it boosts your immune system. This is because the wheatgrass shot will activate the white blood cells in your body.

It has the ability to alleviate stress.  Wheatgrass reduces high blood pressure and that in turn will cause you to become less stressed.  And you’ll be healthier than before, so right there should make you more relaxed! 

I am fortunate enough to have an organic juice bar very close to my work, but I know not everyone has that luxury.  Here are a few options that you can do at home: Amazing Grass Organic Wheat Grass Powder,Amazing Grass Organic Wheat Grass Individual Servings, and Certified Organic Wheatgrass Growing Kit.  Of course the powders are going to be a lot easier than growing you own but if you want to really commit I would suggest growing you own!

Skin Saving Bath Tips

I am a very strong supporter of sitting in the bath every night to relax!  It is something I love and something I do for myself.
Currently my skin has taken a turn for the worst.  I am covered in small dry patches that will not stop itching.  I went to urgent care and was given a prescription that did not work.  Just yesterday I went to the dermatologist and was told I have Pityriasis Rosa, which is a virus I contracted airborne.  It will go away in about 8-10 week but until then I was given a cream.  This cream was not enough to sooth my skin.  Below are my best tips and tricks for taking a soothing bath!

You Will Need:
A bath filled with warm water (Be sure not to make it too hot or it will irritate the skin)
1/4 cup of olive oil
2 spoon full of coconut oil

Place all the ingredients in the bath while it is filling up.  The coconut oil may need some assistance in melting since it is in solid form.  Just take it in your hand and help it melt.
Sit in the bath for a long as you would like!
While in the bath take the water and massage your skin to help the oil sink in.
Once you are ready to leave the bath, grab a clean towl and be sure to pat yourself dry.  If you rub then you will be rubbing off the oils that are now on your skin.
I suggest you do this right before you sleep.  Be sure to sleep in clothes so you do not transfer the oil onto your bed.
* Be careful the tub will be very slippery! 

Clean Up:
The oil will collect at the bottom of your tub.
Grab disk soap and drizzle it over the oil and let it sit for about 10 minutes.
Take a brush and lightly scrub the tub.
Rise the tub!

I hope this helps you like this helped me!  For additional moisture put coconut oil on your skin after you get out of the bath.

Not Your Mother’s Tuna Salad

I’m sure I am not the only one who hates mayo covered tuna salad, but I love the taste of tuna.  I have searched high and low for something that is not dairy based but still tastes good.  This is where I came up with the idea of pesto based tuna. It is a healthier option and a more “adult” way to enjoy a tuna salad.

IMG_2897 The best part of this tuna salad is it only takes three ingredients!

Pesto Tuna Salad:
One can of white albacore tune
One table-spoon of basil pesto
One finely chopped tomato

Feel free to add any other ingredients that sound good!  I would suggest celery, or cucumbers.  The more veggies the healthier it becomes!


Once the tomato is finely chopped place everything into a bowl and stir until completely mixed.  Be sure to drain your tuna completely; while most are preserved in water it was still high in sodium and this allows for the salty water to not be in your salad. 

I bring this for lunch quite often.  It is a high in protein lunch and because it is dairy free there is less fat!  I place this between two sandwich thins and add some greens for a great lunch!

Avocado, Strawberry, and Banana Smoothie

One of my favorite things to put into my smoothies is a ripe avocado.  There are plenty of reasons why you should go out and eat an avocado right now.  Most notably: avocados are the only fruit that provides a large amount of monounsaturated fat (the healthy kind). Avocados are a naturally nutrient-dense food and contain nearly 20 vitamins and minerals!  If that’s not reason enough to incorporate them into your diet then I don’t know what is.

Today I used what I had in my kitchen, which lead to:

Two medium bananas
Half an avocado
1 cup of frozen strawberries 

At this point all you need to do is throw it in a blender and enjoy!
